What Reiki is — and what it is not

Reiki is a Japanese practice of gentle, hands-on energy work. You stay fully dressed and simply lie down; the hands rest lightly on or above the body. Nothing is pushed, nothing is analysed. The invitation is to shift out of the constant doing of the day and into the state where the body can rest, digest and repair.

People come to Reiki with very ordinary things: too much stress, broken sleep, a body that feels tight, a mind that will not stop, a life phase that is changing shape. Reiki is a complementary practice for relaxation and wellbeing — it is not medicine, not a diagnosis, and it never replaces medical care.

    How a session unfolds

    01

    Arriving

We begin with a short conversation about what you are carrying right now — stress, sleeplessness, a decision, grief, or simply the wish to rest.

    02

    The treatment

You stay fully dressed and lie down, warm and covered. Hands rest lightly on or slightly above the body, following the classic Reiki positions from head to feet.

    03

    Deepening

Where it serves you, the session is woven with breath guidance, chakra work, guided meditation or the sound of Tibetan singing bowls.

    04

    Integration

Time to come back slowly, a glass of water, and space to speak about what you noticed — plus simple practices to take home.

    Questions people ask

How long does a Reiki session last?

An individual session lasts around 60 to 90 minutes, including the conversation before and after the treatment. First sessions are usually closer to 90 minutes.

How many Reiki sessions do I need?

Many people come for a single session to rest deeply. For ongoing themes such as chronic stress, sleep or a period of change, a series of three to five sessions over several weeks tends to be more supportive. Longer coaching journeys start from eight weeks.

What does a Reiki session feel like?

Most people describe warmth, tingling, a heavy, pleasantly grounded body and a very quiet mind. Some fall asleep. Afterwards it is common to feel calm and clear, sometimes tired — rest and water are welcome.

    Is Reiki a medical treatment?

No. Reiki is a complementary practice for relaxation and wellbeing. It does not replace medical or psychotherapeutic treatment, and no medical claims or promises of cure are made.

Where do the sessions take place?

In Merano and around South Tyrol — in a quiet private setting, at partner hotels, or on location for groups and retreats. Sessions are held in German, English or Italian.
